Director of Nursing – DON

The primary responsibility of your job position is to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of our Nursing Service Department following the current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern long term care and assisted living facilities. You are entrusted to ensure that the highest degree of quality care can be provided to our residents at all times.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Care and Care Coordination 60% time

Coordinate resident care with other departments.

Perform administrative duties such as: completing medical documents, reports, evaluations, studies, charting etc.

Evaluate accident/incident reports and implement interdisciplinary solutions

Assure adequate supplies are available including but not limited to pharmaceuticals, resident personal supplies and equipment

Prepare plan of care for each resident that identifies the problems/needs, indicate the care to be given, goals to be accomplished and which professional service is responsible for each element of care.

Coordinate with outside agencies including but not limited to; hospitals, hospice, home health, lab, x-ray, DME companies, etc.

Supervisory 40% time

Develop, organize, implement, evaluate and direct the nursing service department

Develop, organize, implement and evaluate programs and activities including but not limited to; restorative nursing, QAPI etc.

Prepare, plan, schedule and participate in nursing in-service meetings

Determine and ensure appropriate staffing to meet the needs of the residents

Interview, select and assist in on-boarding of qualified staff for the nursing services department

Provide employee reviews, employee feedback, corrective actions and determine dismissal of nursing services employees

Make rounds to assess quality of care performance and teamwork by employees, assuring quality service and safety

Maintain confidentiality and rights of resident, family, employee and facility information in compliance with PHI HIPAA policies and applicable regulations and company policy

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of computer systems including Point Click Care

Working knowledge of long-term care and skilled nursing state and federal regulations

Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, procedures and standards of care

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience: Must have, as a minimum, three (3) years of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing care facility,

License: Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as RN in Colorado, CPR Certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility

Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a mental and physical examination

Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met

Must be able to push, pull, move, and /or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet

May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Moves intermittently during working hours

Is subject to frequent interruptions

Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances

Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.

Works beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary

Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)

Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants

Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses

May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals

OTHER:

Must possess a valid and unrestricted Driver’s License

Classification: Exempt

Maintain confidentiality and rights of resident, family, employee, and facility information in compliance with PHI HIPAA policies and applicable regulations

Maintains safe work environment and exhibits safe work practices

Pass background, CAPs and pose no direct threat to the health or safety of individuals in the workplace
