Paid Sick Leave Expansion

Update your Employee Handbook & educate your Staff – State law going into effect August 8th, 2023
Paid sick leave can already be used for:
- Employee’s or Family Member’s health: mental or physical illness, injury, obtaining diagnosis, treatment, or obtain preventative care.
- Victim of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, or Harassment: seek medical attention, obtain services from a victim services organization, obtain mental or other counseling, seek relocation, or seek legal services.
- Public Health Emergency: employee’s place of business or a child’s school or place of care closes due to a public order and the employee must miss work.
Add to Paid Sick Leave uses:
- Bereavement – grieve, attend funeral/memorial, or deal with financial/legal matters related to the death of a family member.
- Provide care – for a family member whose school or place of care has been closed due to: inclement weather, loss of power/heating, loss of water, other unexpected occurrence/event that causes the school or place of care to close.
- Evacuate – employee’s place of residence due to same as above.
WHAT’S A “FAMILY MEMBER?” Employee’s immediate family member related by blood, marriage, civil union or adoption. A child whom the employee stands in loco parentis. A person who stood in loco parentis to the employee as a child, or a person for whom the employee is responsible for providing or arranging health- or safety-related care.
