Employment Law Change in August – Job Applications

Update your Job Applications – State employment law going into effect August 8th, 2023.

JOB APPLICATION FAIRNESS ACT:  Employers cannot request or require a job applicant to provide information related to age on an initial job application.

  • No age
  • No birthdate
  • No dates of attendance at or graduation from an education institution

NOTE: If you tell them they can redact age-identifiers, you can ask for certifications, transcripts, etc.

You may request verification of age requirements if they are directly related to:

  • Occupational qualification pertaining to public or occupational safety
  • Federal law/regulation
  • State/local law/regulation

NOTE: These requests may not require disclosure of specific age, DOB, or dates of attendance or date of graduation from educational institution on an initial job application.
